Wolverine (James Howlett, more popularly known as Logan) is a fictional character, a superhero appearing in American graphic novels published by Marvel Comics.
He is mostly associated with the X-Men and remains one of their most famous characters to date. In recent years however he has been featured as part of many of Marvel titles like X-Force, Alpha Flight as well as The Avengers.
Wolverine is a mutant, a genetically-enhanced human being who possesses keen animal instincts, peak strength and agility, and regenerative capabilities called a healing factor.
But his most iconic characteristic (besides his attitude!) is that he has razor sharp claws which pop out from both knuckles.
Wolverine has been traditionally depicted as having claws laced with adamantium, a fictional type of unbreakable metal alloy second only to vibranium, said to be the strongest form of metal in the Marvel universe and is what Captain America's shield is made of.
Australian actor Hugh Jackman played the character Wolverine in a good number of X-Men and Wolverine movies spanning some 17 years, with his latest being the depiction of Logan in a dystopian future where there are no new mutants and our favourite mutant struggles to stay alive.
The movie relies heavily on material sourced from Wolverine: Old Man Logan, an eight-issue storyline from the Wolverine ongoing series by writer Mark Millar and artist Steve McNiven, published by Marvel Comics in June 2008.
In the series, Wolverine lives in an alternate future universe designated as Earth-807128, where super villains overthrew the super heroes.
A gang of super-powered criminals known as the Hulk Gang destroy what remains of Logan's life, and along with it his family.
This sets Logan off on a mission for revenge, killing off every Hulk in his way, with the exception of a baby known as Bruce Jr.
Old man Logan comes in the standard, updated version of the Mezco Toyz packaging- a window cover minus the flap, as well as the plastic trays to store the figure and its accessories.
Old man comes with:
6 interchangeable hands including a pair of clawed fists
1 baby Hulk
1 leather overcoat
1 white t-shirt
1 sculpted belt with decorative buckle 1 workman pants 1 pair of sculpted cowboy boots 1 removable hat 1 backpack that holds baby Hulk One:12 Collective display base with logo One:12 Collective adjustable display post
My only gripe with this figure is the fact that it comes with only one headsculpt.
The headsculpt they gave us is fantastic and captures the likeness of the comic book character, but an alternate angry Old Man Logan headsculpt would have sealed the deal for me and I would have ranked this section a perfect 10.
Old Man Logan is definitely my most favourite Wolverine figures out of all the Mezco variants so far. He's superior in terms of articulation, poseability and I am really digging the wired trenchcoat, which makes for some real nice poses.
The level of detail in baby Hulk is awesome as well, and Mezco really spent some time and effort in giving the hat and the backpack that weathered, worn-out look.
My only concern is that how much of a tight fit the backpack strap is when Logan wears it over his trenchcoat. Since its not made of a rubbery, stretchy fabric there is a real risk of tearing the strap.
I would exercise caution when putting in on, but if you're putting it on Logan without the trenchcoat its fine.
And here's how Old Man Logan stacks up with both the Mezco Exclusive Wolverine, and the regular version:
Old Man Logan's base figure is one of the more pliable Mezco bodies that have been produced. Its sturdy and the waist swivel allows for a wide range of movements.
However the absence of a proper ab crunch kinda puts a dent to an otherwise almost perfect figure. The same goes for the lack of an ankle pivot.
But no matter, its a minor issue at most.
Unlike the other Mezco Wolverine figures or The Mezco Red Skull figure, Old Man Logan's gear really complements the figures and does not get in the way of the ability to strike up some nice poses.
If you're a fan of the Old Man Logan story arc, or just a plain Wolverine fan, this figure needs to be added to your collection.
BBTS has some in stock for US$80 (RM319.22) Buy it quick, before the prices on the secondary market exact their revenge! Muahahahaha :)
OVERALL SCORE: 8.5/10
