Mafex Knightmare Batman figure REVIEW!

INTRODUCTION:

Batman is a fictional superhero who appears in his comic book series by DC Comics. The character was originally created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger, and made his first appearance in Detective Comics #27 (May 1939).

Batman's alter-ego is Bruce Wayne, billionaire playboy and philanthropist who lives in a fictional city called Gotham City.

When he was a child, Batman watched helplessly as his parents were murdered by criminals. Driven by a thirst for vengeance and justice, he swore an oath to protect the city from criminal and those who would do harm.

But unlike other vigilantes like Marvel's The Punisher, what makes Batman different is his disdain for guns as well as well as a moral code to never kill his opponent.

What makes Batman truly stand out from other characters in the DC universe like Superman or even the Green Lantern is the fact that he relies on his genius intellect, physical prowess, science, logic and detective skills to carry out his mission. He's that one superhero who's always ready with several contingency plans, and the only who knows everyone else's weaknesses.

I also think the reason why Batman resonates with so many readers is because he represents the duality in all of us. Every one has a secret, a secret life or identity that they keep hidden from the public, or even aspirations that they wishes they could set out to do.

Batman takes it a step further and showcases in many story arcs the struggle between the two roles he juggles to portray, and leaves us wondering just exactly who is wearing the mask- Batman or Bruce Wayne?

PACKAGING- 7/10

The Mafex Knightmare Batman comes packaged in slipcover box designed for collectors where you can store the accessories when you do not want to use them. But unlike Mezco Toyz, this figure does not come with a ziplock bag.

ACCESSORIES- 8/10

This figure comes with surprisingly a good amount of accessories BUT the flipside is that some of these accessories are meant for the Mafex Batfleck and Armored Batman figures. Meaning that you won't be able to use them if you don't have these figures with you.

I was happy enough with what Mafex gave us as I had accidentally broken my Mezco Armored Batman Kryptonite spear. The Mafex one works nicely with my Mezco figure!

Mafex Knightmare Batman comes with:

- One Trenchcoat - Two heads - Masked & Unmasked - Binoculars - One Rifle - OnePistol -One Extra cowl

- Three pairs of hands for Knightmare Batman

- One pair of hands for Mafex Armored Batman

- One pair of hands for Mafex Superman

- One Kryptonite spear

FIGURE- 9/10

Mafex figures have had its fair share of hits and misses, which is possibly why a lot of people I know hesitate to buy them. I personally had a really bad experience with the Dark Knight Batman 1.0 figure, where the hands kept popping off each time I tried to pose the figure. There's also been some issues with the quality of some of their figures in the past, which is why I was initially VERY hesitant to get this figure.

And of course, I had already pre-ordered Mezco Toyz's Knightmare Batman....but that's a story for a different time :)

Back to Mafex. This figure is so awesome. Production pictures don't do it justice, and I haven't the foggiest idea why some people were complaining about the Ben Affleck headsculpt. For a One: 12 scale figure its looks pretty awesome!

Here's a breakdown of what I liked about this figure:

1. Great headsculpts, figure paint and colour

2. Tight joints; meaning unlike previous Mafex figures, this Batman's joints won't suddenly pop out of his body

3. Super articulate and poseable

4. Scales fairly well with other six-inch figures and Mezco figures.

What I didn't like:

1. Figure could have been slightly bulkier. Too skinny in my opinion

2. They should have made the goggles removable

3. The guns should have come with removable clips

ARTICULATION- 9.5/10

I'm really pleased with how articulate this figure is. It comes with butterfly joints at the arms, ab crunch, and the feet stretches out pretty well without any problems. Overall very satisfying for poses.

POSEABILITY- 9/10

This figure's sturdiness allows for more interesting pose choices as there aren't any fears of it falling down. And I am really, really digging the Batman headsculpt! Guess I'll have to change my mind about Mafex :) Keep this up and Mezco, SHF will have a serious competitor in the future.

VALUE- 8/10

I'd say if you're a Batman fan, and if you like the Knightmare Batman version but worry about breaking the bank in getting a figure, Mafex offers collectors an economically-viable choice :)

Big Bad Toy Store has him for US$49.99 (RM212.88), or you can search online for a good deal.

OVERALL SCORE- 8.4/10
